VR COMMANDER Upgrade Guide
Note: Version 3.1 users do not need to upgrade to Version 3.2.
New Features in Version 3.1 versus 2.1
1. Main Control Panel
The template loader screen from V 2.1 has been replaced by the Main Control Panel. Use this screen to load templates, view commands, jump to applications settings or create new templates.
2. New Command Types Input Text Strings
Text strings of any length can now be input into your voice enabled applications. This feature is great for emails, instant messaging, etc.
Run a file or script
Any file or script can now be launched using a voice command. This command type is great for running macros or launching sound files.
3. Continuous Command option is now a template level option
Allowing or not allowing continuous commands is an important feature to for each user to operate their voice enabled application in the most effective manor. In V2.1 this setting was a global setting from the application setting screen. In V3.0 it is now a per template setting. This is because users require different action for each application. All V2.1 templates should be edited to check this feature either on or off depending upon your preference for the underlying application for which the template was created.
4. Go to Sleep and Wake up commands and options
To help eliminate accidental go to sleep or wake up action, these commands have been altered so that the user must now say "VR Commander Go to Sleep" or "VR Commander Wake Up". In addition, new setting for requiring confirmation have been installed (set on the applications settings screen). If selected, these settings require the user to say "Wake Up Confirm" or "Go to Sleep Confirm" after the ping. (The ping sounds after the users states "VR Commander Go to Sleep" or "VR Commander Wake Up".)
5. New Listening Options Push to Talk
This new feature allows the user to select an activation key to hold and press to toggle VR Commander into listening mode. If the key is not pressed, VR Commander is in not listening. This can be set on or off in the Applications Settings Screen. Conversely an option for push to stop listening or VR Commander is alway on is available. See the user guide or quick start guide for tips on choosing a proper activation key.
6. Redesigned User Interface
The user interface has been redesigned to be more intuitive. The Main Control panel is a significant example. The Template Editor screen has also been redesigned to be easier to navigate and to edit and create commands. Mouse over user tips have been added to many screen elements to guide the user. Finally, new hot key keyboard shortcuts have been added. View the shortcuts by pressing the Alt key on the keyboard.
7. Integrated On-line help and built in Tutorial
It's easier than ever to become expert in using VR Commander. New context sensitive help and flash tutorial will get you up to speed in minutes.
Upgrade process
Step 1. Save a back up copy of your current templates. These templates will be compatible with V3.0. The V2.1 Templates folder is located at: local disk>program files>vrcommander>Templates.
Step 2. Un-install Version 2.1 using the un-install capability within Windows (located on your computer's control panel). Note that the executable, and other related VR Commander files will be deleted permanently from your computer. Any templates that were included in the original download will also be deleted. If you made any alternations to those templates, they will be lost unless you back up your templates as suggested in step 1. All templates you created on your own will not be deleted by the un-install script.
Step 3. Download V3.0 from this website.
Step 4. Install V3.0 using the installation script. VR Commander's licensing technology should automatically transfer your existing license to the new version. You do not need a new site key.
Step 5. Move your V2.1 templates into the Templates folder of the newly installed Version 3.0. The templates folder is located at: local disk>program files>vrcommander>Templates. (Note that some starter templates will be auto installed by the VR Commander 3.0 installation script. Also, any template you created in V2.1 should be already in the folder if you did not move them during the back up process. You do not need to overwrite those templates from your back up file into the Templates folder. The template back up file (created in step 1) was done to preserve any template changes the user may have made to the starter templates that came with the original V2.1 installation that would have been subsequently lost during the un-install process.) Remember not to alter the location or name of the Templates folder.
Step 6. Start up VR Commander. You should see your templates and any new templates installed from the V3.0 installation process in the Main Control Panel window. You will want to adjust your V2.1 templates by:
- Checking Allow Continuous commands - if desired.
- Adding new commands using the new command type features.
That should do it. Contact Support if you have any issues.
